Auf Wiedersehen, Pet

Football in the middle of July

Once I found out that Ipswich were going to play a pre-season versus Fortuna Düsseldorf in Germany and that they were having an after party in a former steel works I had to go!
There were several of us from Borussia Martlesham and other associates that were up for it. I flew to Cologne on the Friday morning whilst the rest of them travelled the day before.
People have asked me about the team that Mick McCarthy played and the new signings etc, but I can't really remember too much detail! The local beer obviously went down well!

Ready for the off!
Mid-morning meet up at Dusseldorf Hauptbahnhof

There were posters all over the place advertising the match
The match was played at their Paul Janes Stadion which is used for friedlies and is also home to Fortuna Düsselldorf II

Getting the Bratwurst ready

It was about 30 degrees at kick-off. We lost the match 4-3. Freddie Sears, Brett Pitman & Ainsley Maitland-Niles scored our goals.
Saw this in the gents!

Time for the after party at the Stahlwerk

That was a long day, up at 4am Friday morning to get to Stansted for my flight to Cologne (thanks Shar). I finally got to bed at about 2.30am Saturday, never mind it was really good fun - well I think it was, from what I remember.
It was about 9.30am when I woke up, dehydrated, tired, but not to hungover - surprisingly! I was the oldest person left, as Tim & Dave were heading back to Cologne that morning.

Saturday nights Altbier Safari

Helping out behind the bar! Oh dear another late one - I think it was 4.30am when we got back to the hotel

Sunday was a very sombre day

We did however visit the Classic Remise, a large showroom full of classic cars - it's the No1 thing to do in Dusseldorf according to TripAdvisor!

Time to check-out of the A&O...

and head back to Cologne

Sunday afternoon beers in Cologne
Ready to board our Ryanair flight home - it's been a long weekend!!
